Triumphancy, Humility and Gratitude
The closer one comes to truth, the less one feels triumphant and the more one feels grateful.
I wrote these words a few months ago, but their significance has continued to deepen for me.
The journey towards higher consciousness — towards the recognition of our true Self — brings with it an increasing sense of humility. As our perspective expands, we begin to see the minuteness of our individual human existence within something immeasurably greater.
I find myself feeling less triumphant about personal achievements. Not because they have no value within this life, but because I increasingly see them as waves rising and falling within the movement of experience. They appear, they remain for a time, and they pass. They are not my ultimate reality.
There is something profoundly humbling in recognising this.
A ray of sunlight may appear separate, yet it has never existed independently of the sun from which it emanates. When the ray recognises its source, what is there for it to claim as its own?
Perhaps this is why the closer one comes to truth, the less there is to feel triumphant about.
There is only gratitude.
